Howdy.

Quick update, a few webcomics I recommend reading:

XKCD
Questionable Content
The Meek (awesome inking skills!)
Red String

Yo again!

So, yes. Sunny April, it's a little too sunny really (though all the strawberries in England are very happy right now...) and that means no potatoes and no asparagus. Or at least, very little.
I'm enjoying it, I love wearing shorts, so it's a good time, but I must say that if there's one downside of good weather it's that it makes revising very difficult to do!

So, pretext done, now onto the real stuff. Howdy. How're you doing there. Hopefully not too badly, though of course ytou can't expect life to always go well. Anyway- I thought I'd update you on the things my life encompasses around this time (insert grin here...). I've been revising, not a lot but... yeah. It's okay. I hate revising so having gotten any done is great in my eyes. I listen to a lot of John Mayer recently so he's sort of my backing track. For instance, yesterday morning I was listening to his track "Vultures" (the Live in LA version) and I liked the drum beat so I took my drumsticks to school and bammed it out on their drumkit. Hearing the sheer painful volume I can create always reminds me of why mum said no to buying my own kit. We live in a flat- hah! Good luck insulating, she said. I decided against it in the end. £400 for drums and another grand or so for the soundproofing... Yes.

I'm surprised, I get real complaints for not writing this blog.

Anyway, I've been reading again. I got a library card, which signals the start of my reading season. So far I've bought four books (all crime) and I'm currently reading Marina Lewicka's "We Are All Made of Glue" and I have to confess that, upon first opening the book, I was convinced it wasn't as good as her most famous novel, "A Short history of Tractors in Ukrainian". However, I stand corrected, this book is also rather good. I love how flexible her writing style is; she very much knows how to get into (and subsequently portray) the mindsets of her protagonists. It's enjoyable reading her books, they are descriptive and interesting rather than lacking in certain areas. I must confess I greatly prefer books which don't have pictures, and hers are well-written enough that I feel the scenes are constructed fully in her mind when she's writing- it all seems very realistic.

Also, following on from Chuck Palahniuk's successful appearance into my reading world, I have loaned his book "Rant" which is also incredibly different to the previous novel of his that I read- "Fight Club". I guarantee that many of you will be thinking "There's a book?". Yes, and it's bloody good, so go and rent it, borrow it, buy it. Get the new version with the author's word in the back, it's excellent.

It seems writers these days have to be very flexible in their schemes and plans, and not least their style. They have to appeal to an ever-changing market. They are gifted enough to write a book on one subject - even adhesives (We Are All Made of Glue), in a way, and make it interesting and funny.

I have yet to find a book that won't appeal to me in some mood or other. However, my downfall is silly books, like teen dramas. I highly recommend reading a book before seeing its filmed counterpart. Things are always left out- helpful, interesting details or things that can be imagined but not fit into the prescribed budget.

Needless to say, I love reading. Reading season is here! Yay!

Happy reading, folks! VW
